Soledad
Baños-Mateos, PhD

Graduate in Chemistry from the University of Extremadura, and PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of Cambridge (UK).

Her research career has been focused on the study of proteins and macromolecular complexes by Structural Biology. Soledad has been involved in several research programmes at national (Instituto de Química-Física Rocasolano CSIC, Madrid) and international (MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK) research institutes. During her PhD, she studied the DNA replication process in the bacteria that causes tuberculosis. She solved the structure of a target protein by X-ray crystallography and studied its interaction with DNA using electron microscopy. She worked at CIC bioGUNE (Bilbao) as a postdoctoral researcher studying intracellular trafficking and recycling protein complexes.

Soledad is currently working at the R&D Department of VIVEbiotech as a senior scientist in the development of lentiviral vectors for gene therapy.
