During the visit, the Minister was able to verify firsthand the contribution that VIVEbiotech makes to gene therapy by producing and developing lentiviral vectors. In addition, she visited the VIVEbiotech laboratory that has the latest technology to produce the lentiviral vectors and verified the expansion plan whose execution will begin in the coming days.
The Minister was accompanied by the Government Delegate in the Basque Country, Jesús Loza, the Government subdelegate in Gipuzkoa, Guillermo Echenique and the General Lieutenant Representative of Gipuzkoa, Denis Itxaso. They were received by Gurutz Linazasoro, CEO of VIVEbiotech and José Manuel Franco, COO.
VIVEbiotech is in a growth phase with the objective of multiplying its production capacity by 30. To do so, three new cleanrooms for large capacity bioreactors will be built, and workforce will be expanded by 25%.
